"Wizard World Comic Con already presents the best in celebrity meet and greets, movies, television, science fiction and comics and we believe that including music is the next logical progression to provide a great experience for our fans," said Randy Malinoff, COO of Wizard World. "These live music events are a key component to the continued growth of our brand. We're excited to present the concert series debut with Grimes, and to bring our fans the latest and best headliners and emerging musical talent nationwide."
Born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, Grimes' musical style carries a wide array of influences, ranging from electronica to pop to hip-hop and even R&B. Her explosive career has garnered praise from the likes of The New York Times, hailing her third studio album Visions (2012) as "one of the most impressive albums of the year so far." Her fourth studio album, Art Angels (2015) landed her inclusion in Billboard's "25 Best Albums of the Year," Pitchfork, Paste, and Spin Magazine's "50 Best Albums of 2015" and The New York Times "Best Albums of 2015" lists, to name a few.
The music concert series presented by Wizard World Comic Con will bring top, breakout musical talent to several cities across the U.S. during its inaugural run this summer and fall. The series will also include alternative pop singer HANA, who is opening for Grimes on June 3 in Philadelphia. Other artists include the stunning and provocative singer, songwriter, Melanie Martinez performing this summer. Further show dates, performers and cities to be announced soon.
Wizard World's music concert series has also commissioned acclaimed Los Angeles-based pop artist Kii Arens to create and design all eight of the limited edition, exclusive art rock posters for each artist performing at the shows. The artwork will be included in the limited VIP package for each concert in the series.
