David Lynch Exits New Twin Peaks

You were all looking forward to new episodes of Twin Peaks in this age of wonders when the X-Files has returned and Big Trouble in Little China toys can be found on Toys R Us shelves. Sadly, not all things can return the way we want them. David Lynch took to Twitter to announce the following:

Dear Twitter Friends, Showtime did not pull the plug on Twin Peaks. After 1 year and 4 months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done. This weekend I started to call actors to let them know I would not be directing. Twin Peaks may still be very much alive at Showtime. I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently.

This announcement came shortly after rampant rumors pouring out of Wondercon that Showtime had pulled the plug on the series all together...which may very well still be the case until we hear the official, official word. Seriously...how do you revive Twin Peaks without David Lynch? It will be like those new oddball episodes of Ren and Stimpy...or when the wrong people do the voices of The Muppets. Ok..poor example...but you get my meaning. David Lynch brings a vibe and untethered imagination to his projects that NO ONE could hope to duplicate. We'll be watching to see how this plays out.
