The Funko Update: Assassin's Creed, Adventure Time, A Christmas Story & More

THE DOMINATION CONTINUES!! Funko's army of irresistibly cute marches on with new additions for your cartoon, video game and movie factions. Soon, the cute levels will be high enough to storm the nation's capital. VICTORY IN 2014!!!

First, a little announcement. One of the most unique and highly anticipated toys of San Diego Comic-Con 2013 was the pre-order and launch of Super7's™ ReAction Figures™ Alien™ line. From the "Lost Prototype" 2-pack and Early Bird Kit to the the full reveal of the final Alien™ ReAction figures™ , the collector community was in a frenzied state over this new "retro style" look of toys within the action figure community. At the same time, Funko's™ continued growth and expanding product line made it's San Diego Comic-Con booth one of the single most traveled spots of the entire convention. After years of sharing the same aisle together, Super7™ and Funko™ saw an incredible opportunity to leverage each other's unique business insights into a more strategic partnership. Beginning with the launch of the Highly anticipated Alien™ ReAction Figures™ and then several licenses to be announced soon,  both companies look to establish a firm collaborative footprint in the market with the ReAction Figures ™ line.

Justin Timberlake Wants To Be The Riddler

The Gods of moviedom shouted down from Mount Hollywood "Hey! You Nerds! We're gonna make Ben Affleck your new Batman. Whatcha think?" ..and in a switch, decisive, enraged reaction, the nerdy humans below hurled their thunderbolts back up the mountain. The message was clear, and point taken, but this isn't shifting Ben from his role anytime soon. We here at Idle Hands think he is more than capable so let's all STFU about it. They've got 2 years to change your mind. Following this was a "rumor" that Bryan Cranston would be stepping into an ultra slick business suit for the role of Lex Luthor. Is it true? Is it not? Still a rumor? Confirmed? There's too much back and forth on this one, but we think he'd make one hell of an arch nemesis for the Man of Steel.

As Hollywood sounds off on the Bat-casting with our father, Joss Whedon, in support, alongside Kevin Smith, we've also been getting a not-so-subtle wish list from A-list celebs as to who they would want to play in the comic book to movie universe. MTV caught an interview on radio station Fresh 102.7 where Justin Timberlake added his approval to the Batman casting choice but pitched in an "oh hell no" at the idea of super hero support aspirations alongside Batfleck. The idea of being the bad guy was way more enticing.

LEGO Minifigures Online

In the already overcrowded video game marketplace, publishers have been scrambling to find an equally addictive replacement for Warcraft, which has been cooling off for some time now. It appears LEGO may have found the secret ingredient to that "highly addictive" formula...and pumped it into a video game for little kids...which we will surely be playing as well. Let's face it, if the VG version of LEGO Minifigures is half as enticing as the endless waves of actual minifigures toys in blind packaging, we are doomed. Say goodbye to your social life.

Get ready to meet the Minifigures! Collect them all and bring them with you on grand adventures in LEGO Minifigures Online - an epic online adventure where you get to explore colorful locations such as Pirate World, Space World and Medieval World!

Fantasia 2013 Mini Reviews Part 3: Thanatomorphose, Rewind This, OXV & More

It's the last round of Fantasia mini reviews from Emilie Noetzel before we start filtering in some more full length reviews. Dive in and read up on films you'll want to keep a running list of and seek out when they start showing up in theaters or on DVD!

Thanatomorphose
From the provided description, Thanatomorphose “is a French word meaning the visible signs of an organism’s decomposition caused by death.” The lead character in this movie has a simple life in a simple apartment with a douchebag boyfriend who does not treat her right. As her relationship seems to be getting worse, her body starts decomposing. The story is certainly a metaphor for something, but the level of gross that is brought on by the decomposing body of the lead while she tries to survive it takes all attention away from any meaning you may hope to pull forth. The effects are amazingly good and absolutely disgusting. I have seen more than my share of gross out movies and this one has surpassed them all. It is flat out wretched, so much so that the story falls behind this and does not get the focus it deserves. So, if you think you can take the vomit inducing effects and peel away those putrid layers to get to the story beneath, or even easier, want those effects alone, go for it.  All of weaker nature should avoid.

A New LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Video Game Trailer

You know what's great about the LEGO games? You can play with your 8 year old nephew without much high stress and when he has proven to be a brat and insists you are hogging up all the coins for yourself, you can spend the rest of your time chasing each other around looking for things that will blow up the other person. Such is my family. That was LEGO Batman. I can't wait to see what sort of LEGO pain we can inflict on each other with LEGO HULK!!! Actually, it will probably be dueling Hulks the whole game. My nephew is no fool.

Gail Simone: Super Hero

She set the bar plenty high with her take on Birds of Prey. She made you fall in love with the villains of the DC Universe in Secret Six. She even left her mark on Wonder Woman. There's no doubt Gail Simone is a top notch comic book writer and one whose game shows no sign of diminishing. If you follow Gail on Twitter, you quickly learn she is just as big a fan of the titles and characters she writes about as we, the humble readers are...and that small fact = love all day long. HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE THIS WOMAN WHO SQUEES WHEN SHE GETS TO WORK WITH AN ARTIST SHE LOVES??!! To add to this love fest, Gail Simone recently summoned up all her courage and took to the streets to LITERALLY defend a young lady in harms way, earning her another title. Hero.

Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa

86 year-old Irving Zisman is on a journey across America with the most unlikely companion, his 8 year-old Grandson Billy in "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa.” This October, the signature Jackass character Irving Zisman (Johnny Knoxville) and Billy (Jackson Nicoll) will take movie audiences along for the most insane hidden camera road trip ever captured on camera.

Along the way Irving will introduce the young and impressionable Billy to people, places and situations that give new meaning to the term childrearing. The duo will encounter male strippers, disgruntled child beauty pageant contestants (and their equally disgruntled mothers), funeral home mourners, biker bar patrons and a whole lot of unsuspecting citizens.

Real people in unreal situations, making for one really messed up comedy.

See...that's what Borat was missing...a little tiny Borat with a nice, thick mustache.

A Closer Look at Disney's Frozen

Disney's D23 Expo may be done, but we've got plenty of gems yet to show you from the show floor with photography courtesy of Steve Sievers. One such section featured the newest animated feature starring classic Disney ladies as pretty as they come with costumes sure to make all the women I know squee with anticipation...and begin plotting their cosplays for next year!

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Frozen,” directed by Chris Buck (“Tarzan”) and Jennifer Lee (“Wreck-It Ralph”- screenplay by), and produced by Peter Del Vecho (“Winnie the Pooh,” “The Princess and the Frog”), shared never-before-seen film footage, introduced by “Frozen” stars Kristen Bell, voice of Anna, and Josh Gad, voice of Olaf. Fans were also treated to a show-stopping live performance of the film’s powerful new song “Let It Go,” sung by Broadway’s Tony® Award-winner Idina Menzel, who provides the voice of Elsa in the film.

Prepare for the NEW New52 Lobo

The near invulnerable, virtually unkillable engine of destruction known to some as "The Last Czarnian" has come to be loved for his ridiculous kill frenzy, fake cursing, grind house-esque demeanor amid a world founded on truth, justice and the American way. With the re-birth of this world in The New52, the badass named Lobo returned via Rob Liefeld's title Deathstroke...a little less badass. Now, DC looks to rip that perception from your fragile young minds and flip the script, taking the man you once knew and the man Liefeld relaunched and popping out something a little more...EXXXTREEEEEEME! (with three x's..you know...like the 90's.)

From Bob Harras via the DC Comics Website:

The Lobo you think you know doesn’t exist.

NYCC 2013 Exclusives: Breaking Bad Walter White Green Hazmat Suit Exclusive Figure

Mezco presents Breaking Bad Walter White Green Hazmat Suit Edition! This much anticipated figure features Walter in his green suit as seen in the episode A No Rough Stuff Type Deal.

He comes complete with a fifty-five gallon chemical drum (not shown) and a trio of lab bottles.
The whole set is discreetly packaged in a collector-friendly window box.

Ben Affleck is Batman. Discuss.

He kicked ass in Argo. Undeniable. Can he be the steely, brooding World's Greatest Detective (a role, I might add, WE have yet to see in any Batman film) we've been waiting for, standing toe to toe with  the Man of Steel? Welp, all we know is that WE DON'T KNOW ANYTHING...but the release date, which is now July 2015. Well..we do know a little. Affleck will star opposite Henry Cavill, the current movie Superman, and a sizable chunk of established actors from the Man of Steel film...and Walter White (Bryan Cranston) from breaking Bad as Lex Luthor. Director Zack Snyder stated “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.” David S. Goyer handles the writing duties once again.

...and now you have 2 years to get used to this. LOOK AT IT!!!

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Trailer...with LEGOs!

The World's End Reviewed

By Marlene Bonnelly

Friends, booze and a dawning apocalypse: what could go wrong? The answer: a lot, apparently, and The World's End does a great job of documenting it.

Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost once again manage to join drama, action and a healthy dose of British humor in this final installment of a film trio that includes the fantastically successful Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Something about this one is different, though. The World's End, despite its ridiculous premise, draws on something real and solemn that any adult can relate to. Sure, it's a movie about a group of buddies re-connecting through a perilous adventure around their hometown's watering holes. Sure, there are robots and over-the-top fight scenes and Pegg rocking a painfully 90s getup that had me cringing through the duration of the screening.

Catching Up With The Walking Dead: McFarlane Edition

We are a month away (give or take) from NEW episodes of the show you love to agonize over, theorize about and for those of you with loose typing fingers, spoil for all your friends who now hate your guts. Yay Internets. The Walking Dead returns this October with an entire community now struggling to survive in the abandoned jail and hordes of the undead nipping at the fences every minute of every day, trying to get a bite of manflesh. It's what's for diner. McFarlane Toys have taken great strides to bring better sculpts to their Walking Dead action figure lines and you've answered by clearing the pegs of every last one. Now let's take a look at the waves you may as well pre-order online if you have any hope of scoring them all for your collection!

Orphan Black Season 1 DVD Reviewed

The Television landscape is now jam packed with any number of oddities, scifi, horror, fantasy, cosplayers baring their claws, and the oddest of all...men who made millions hunting ducks. THE HORROR. Leave it to BBC America to slide past the throng, bypass the pissing contest all together and run a show so original it's like taking a shower under a chilly mountain waterfall with a unicorn. Refreshing!! It's called Orphan Black and if you are the least bit nerdy and a whole lot of geeky, you should be hooked any minute now.

The show opens on Sarah Manning, a tough, street smart Brit hustler in America, looking to do anything she can to survive...until she comes face to face with herself! The show's creators started with a simple premise. "What would you do if you ran into someone who looked just like you, on a train platform...and then they killed themselves?" For Sarah, a choice needs to be made quickly and since she is in survival mode at the time, it is a clear one. She swoops in and takes the dead doppelganger's bag and swiftly scrambles to assume her identity before anyone is the wiser. One small problem. The new identity is American. And a cop. Two small problems. Later we find Sarah's ganger was also a pill popper at the end of her rope unraveling a world wide cloning conspiracy that she herself was at the center of...so yea...several more problems, but then the maths were never my strong suit. Sarah must play the cop, make an effort to get back her daughter and dodge a killer whilst making sure to not set off alarms to the powers that be that she is onto their giant clone experiment and keep everyone she cares about safe.

Director's Cut of Clive Barker's Nightbreed Coming 2014

Shout! Factory and Morgan Creek Productions officially announced today a strategic distribution alliance to bring Clive Barker’s classic horror film “Nightbreed” extended director’s cut to the home entertainment marketplace in the U.S and Canada and on digital entertainment platforms next year. The announcement was made by Shout! Factory’s founders Richard Foos, Bob Emmer and Garson Foos along with David Robinson, President of Morgan Creek Productions. The news initially broke at Comic-Con 2013, however the agreement formally reached by both parties occurred today.

For years rumors swirled about substantial missing footage from the film.  A fan-driven movement was created (www.OccupyMidian.com) to see the full version of the film restored and re-released, which was not only a more faithful adaptation of Clive Barker’s book “Cabal,” but is what originally he intended “Nightbreed” to be.

Video Game Freddy Joins Video Game Jason

If we are to discuss "What exclusive item wore its fandom right out there on its sleeve and caused a HUGE word of mouth swell at San Diego Comic-Con 2013" leading to, what I'd expect, was a massive hoard of buyers at the show and an even larger hoard rushing to online sources to be sure they were not shut out, then we need look no further than NECA and their Friday the 13th Video Game styled Jason action figure...complete with glow in the dark parts. HOLY GRAIL!! Now, NECA has decided Jason needs a friend and who better than the nightmare demon with the unholy back scratchers?

Titanfall Gameplay Demo

Haul ass across a Blade Runner-esque landscape, blasting away at enemy combatants along the way with your squad calling out shots and direction in your ear. When things get too hot, it's time to jump inside a Titan..AKA a tank sized Mech...and bring the pain.

Crafted by one of the co-creators of Call of Duty and other key developers behind the Call of Duty franchise, Titanfall is among the most highly anticipated games of 2014, having been shrouded in mystery for nearly three years. The visionaries at Respawn have drawn inspiration from their proven experience in first-person action gaming, and are building on that pedigree by taking a new approach to game design and creating an all-new universe with Titanfall.

Fantasia 2013: Mini Reviews Part 2: Go Down Death, Return to Nuke Em High, Missionary & More

Marching on with Emilie Noetzel's barrage of mini reviews from the amazing line up at Fantasia 2013!

Go Down Death
Based on the works of folklorist Jonathan Mallory Sinus, whose entire work is 6 pages long, this movie works to fill in the voids and does so very well.  It is an oddity in black and white with songs and great acting.  The least you know about this one going the better I believe.  It is weird, it is enjoyable and it is a must see if you can find it.

Bad Robot's "Stranger"

Firmly cemented in both Star Trek and (soon enough) Star Wars universes, J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot gang of geeky, teasing interweb thugs taunt the dorkiverse with a cryptic, moody, super artsy teaser trailer for something dubbed "Stranger". WHO IS HEEEE???!! Is he a hero for the oncoming, newly born Star Wars sagas? Is he A VULCAN??!! He's totally a Vulcan. I could see the ear points. Or a Klingon. Klingons and Vulcans are almost the same thing anyway. All we know for sure is this guy is unhappy with water and has pesky ropes he can't remove from his wrists...and his best bud is a dude with his mouth sewn up. MAYBE IT'S A FEEL GOOD SITCOM??!! Soggy Guy and The Silence!! Lovin it. Hit the jump for the video teaser...

Once Upon a Time Season 2 Blu-ray Revewed

Once Upon a Time is a show that defies all per-concieved notions about what Disney might do in a television show staring most of their princess lineup and what you think ANYONE might do with this source material in a TV format. It is consistently funny, surprising, excellently written and very well cast....and only after season 1 have I come to realize I'm basically hooked on a fantasy soap opera. CURSE YOU DISNEY MAGIC!! Having accepted I love supernatural mellow drama, I am now prepared to go out into the world and change people's minds about this show, as, quite frankly, the teasers and signage for the show don't do much to convince my core peers to watch unless they are secret Disney freaks. Let's see if we can change your minds.

Fantasia 2013: Mini Reviews Part 1: Big Ass Spider, Helter Skelter, Big Bad Wolves, Saving General Yang & More

Amid the flurry of San Diego Comic-Con and just before the oncoming storm of Disney's D23 Expo, there was the film festival gem of the north we call Fantasia. How do we cover all these events? Well, if you are a regular reader, you know the answer is ...slowly. Guy's gotta make a buck in between all this geekiness!! The better answer (but not as funny) is, with a lot of help from some excellent people. Emilie Noetzel went straight from the floor at SDCC over to the streets of Canada to take in as many excellent films as she possibly could and give us the heads up on what we should be demanding get a wide release and what we should just slowly slide away from and pretend never happened...as is sometimes the case. Dive in!

D23 Expo: Crowd Attacked by Rogue Waffles

Let's face facts. A man named Dr. Doofenshmirtz isn't going to attack the Baxter Building with Doombots, unleash an army of Frost Giants against Asgard or even troll the darkened shadows of New York City in his symbiotic suit looking for tasty grey matter, but a weapon called the Waffle-inator? Yea..that's just his speed. File this under "Yea..it happened." The opening day of Disney's D23 Expo when they tore those super scientist imagineers away from their goal of a fully automated, 3D, mind probing theme park and had them construct....waffle guns. All of this was in celebration of the first official Disney/Marvel Comics cross-over "Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel. Here's the skinny...

D23 Expo: First Impressions of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Pilot

**WARNING!!** SPOILERS AHEAD. IF YOU WANT TO GO INTO THE SHOW FRESH THIS SEPTEMBER, DO NOT READ ON!**  Text by Steve Sievers
It's Sunday at D23 Expo and the last big thing for the convention is the pilot screening of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. After getting there early Saturday to hop into one of the last spots inside Disney's Live Action Movie presentation, I figured I'd better get there plenty early for the S.H.I.E.L.D. screening. We arrived two hours early only to find a mere 200 people in line for a screening taking place in an arena which is about half the size of SDCC's Hall H. I asked a security person if this was the S.H.I.E.L.D. screening. He said yes. I then asked people in line if this is the S.H.I.E.L.D. screening. They said yes. I still didn't think this could be it! I went so far as to find a second security person to make sure. When we were let in I was surprised to see that the arena did not, that's right..DID NOT fill up.

When the lights in the Arena finally went dark and the film began to roll with a roar of approval from the audience, it brought back memories of seeing The Avengers movie. After all that waiting, we were finally getting to see it. Then I thought, will this live up to the hype?!? An hour later and all I can shout is YES!

X-Men: Days of Future Past Trailer

The vid is sneaksy and bad, the sound is horrible and the bulk of this first trailer seems to be folks slow walking and Wolverine with his shirt off; the obligatory "epic movie score" blaring behind it...so what will you take away from this sneak peek? Not a whole hell of a lot, but here it is anyway..until it comes down in an hour.

Following (loosely) the story line from the Uncanny X-Men comic books, X-Men: Days of Future Past sees Wolverine journeying into the past to prevent actions that will trigger an all out war between mutants and humans...with giant robot Sentinels leading the charge! Expect to see the bulk of the "old school" X-Men cast returning alongside the new school/old school X-Men: First Class lineup with additions of Warpath, Bishop, Sunspot, Blink and Quicksilver. Keep watching for more news!

D23 Expo: Marvel Movies & More Live Action Films

Steve Sievers, Chelsea Sievers and lil baby Sievers took to Disney's D23 convention on behalf of Idle Hands and sent over this report on all the Marvel Studios talk at the show. Well, to be honest, it appears Steve and Chelsea were doing all the work while the baby was just lumping around looking cute. YOU CAN'T GET BY ON YOUR LOOKS YOUR WHOLE LIFE BABY!!! Here's Steve's report coupled with some bits from Disney...

Thor: The Dark World opened with the same footage from San Diego Comic-Con 2013, which is pretty much extended scenes you see in the new trailer. Stars Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins took to the stage with Tom immediately apologizing for not being dressed up as Loki. Many in the crowd cheer him on to sing but he said sorry, not today.

Delve into Elysium with Cast & Crew

Nearly one year ago, no one knew what Elysium was about when the cast and film makers took a small stage on the outskirts of San Diego Comic-Con. The film’s lead actor, Matt Damon, joked “That’s what we want you to say after you’ve seen the movie. I have no idea what that was about!”  Director Neill Blomkamp remarked the overlaying theme reflects the widening gap between the wealthy and poor. Jodie Foster remarked “It's a tough trick to make an intelligent movie with socio-political commentary and have it be primitive and emotional and moving and blow things up at the same time.”

The Muppets Most Wanted Teaser Trailer

THE MUPPETS ARE COMING!!! What I would like to see is a Walking Dead-esque TV commercial with humans hiding behind boarded up windows and Fozzie Bear yelling bad jokes to them through the slats and begging to come in and perform for them. Instant viral hit.

Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine—the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit—and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais. The film stars Tina Fey as Nadya, a feisty prison guard, and Ty Burrell as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon. Hit the jump for the vid!

Fantasia 2013: Raze Reviewed

A group of women wake up in small metal cells and are forced to beat each other down with their bare hands til death. TWO CHICKS ENTER…ONE CHICK LEAVE! As you might expect, these fights are live broadcast for the entertainment of rich assholes dining somewhere in the distance. To drive these ladies to murder, their hosts provide live feeds of their loved ones, under constant surveillance and gunpoint. Should a lady lose a fight, her family dies with her. The majority of the film takes place below ground (we assume) with these women in peril and a forced connection between some of them as they scream through the walls. The challenge for the film makers becomes creating new situations and dialogue on a very small stage and not have it become repetitive, boring…or in the case of the beat downs…excessive. Luckily, they’ve got a very likable cast.

Archer + Star Trek = Starcher Trek

Mash-ups will always be popular. Folks take one pop culture item people die for in one hand, another pop culture item people obsess over in another hand and smush those items together in a Godlike fashion until there is a new pop culture mutant baby ready to light the internets on fire. Today, the fine folks at StarcherTrek.com present us with their own radioactive monster baby after taking the already amazing old Star Trek cartoon and over dubbing it with the always insanely funny vocal cast of Archer. The result, PURE FRIED GOLD!! Ease your Monday pains with a whole lot of funny. Hit the jump and enjoy!

Reliving That 1st Ewok Encounter

You remember that time...the timid, furry little creature inching closer with a tiny spear that seemingly couldn't hurt a fly. The space princess, just knocked from her stolen speeder bike..being perused by the Empire and on high guard, but certainly not wary of this little teddy bear native of the forest moon of Endor. Were this a Syfy Saturday night film, the encounter would have ended abruptly when Leia offers up some food and the tiny beast lunged for her face...teeth bared and claws extended. Sadly, this is Star Wars...and while I do love Star Wars something fierce, I love the thought of the reality of the humanoid eating Ewoks even more. FEAR THE LUKA LUKA SONG!! Recently, during Celebration Europe, Warwick Davis (AKA Wicket W. Warrick) and Carrie Fisher (AKA Princess Leia Organa) took the stage and reenacted their first encounter from Return of the Jedi with hilarious results. I say Davis ditches Karl Pilkington and travels across America with Carrie Fisher. What say you? Hit the jump for the video!
