The First Teaser Trailer for Thor: The Dark World

YAY MARVEL WEEK!! We head off to slumber with images of a new Iron Man armor dancing through our heads (click here for the "Red Snapper" Mark XXXV) and awake to Thor swinging his hammer with Natalie Portman at his side. Here's what we've been told so far...

Marvel’s "Thor: The Dark World" continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself.  In the aftermath of Marvel’s "Thor" and "Marvel’s The Avengers," Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos...but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

...and here's the eye candy...

And now that you've seen him, it's time to play... "Get To Know Your Big Bad!!"

You may recall the name from his latest incarnation in the cartoon "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest
Heroes" (now cancelled because Disney hates money). From the image above, it seems the film makers haven't strayed far from the source material. Malekith "The Accursed" (played in the film by Christopher Eccleston AKA the 9th Doctor) rules over the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, one of the nine realms of Asgard. His gifts include super human strength, speed and durability (like most Asgardians), superior agility and reflexes, and Sorcery, which he has used to change his appearance, turn into a mist, teleport over great distances, blast his foes, enhance his own strengths and repair damage to his body. He has a weakness to Iron, like most of his race (go get em', Winchesters!) Malekith's evil plot in the Marvel Universe involved taking possession of the Casket of Ancient Winters, with which one could unleash a cold so chilling, even Frost Giants could not escape it.

SO...we've got another Sorcerer (Loki gives a wink), and a legion of Dark Elves (cue Lord of the Rings music). With all this familiar imagery and themes, it's going to come down to character development and story. Of course, this being the very first teaser trailer for the film, Disney has ample time to make us weep upon our keyboards for opening day! I'm looking forward to what they show us next.

Thanks to MTV for the on set Pics. Thor: The Dark Wold opens November 8th, 2013!
