An Amazing Spider-Man 2 Costume Overhaul

Coming Soon has thwipped out a new image from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, giving us what I believe is the first good look at a more streamlined, classic costume. It appears the web-head is devolving! Where once there was an ultra complicated array of pours, lines and high tech looking materials that made it seem like young Peter Parker was just as much a genius at the sewing machine as when he tinkers with electronics and chemicals...we now have a more classic design with a mesh pattern embedded beneath cloth, the tell tale rounded web lines, a de-ed-hardified spidey-symbol and a widening of the eyes with white lenses, bringing to life an all around iconic look. I'll admit to a lot of basketball suit bashing when the first film was being released, but I'm sure I also admitted the suit looked excellent on screen. Now we are thrust back to square one with a super simplified design harkening back to the Raimi Spider-Man films...and you have to wonder who threw the switch on the way back machine here...

Some comparisons, first of the Raimi costume with the Amazing Spider-Man 2 model, then ASM1 and 2 side-by-side.

In The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

  1. This looks much, MUCH better than the original outfit.
The first one looked funky and weird with the track running shoes and tiny eye pieces.
Here he feels more like the comic books. Hopefully they'll keep this version
for the remainder of the film series.

  2. The costume from the first Amazing Spider-Man film sucked.
I'm so glad they went with the original comic book design for the sequel.
