SDCC 2010: Sideshow: All Your Pop Culture Are Belong to Us

San Diego Comic Con may be 5 days long, but that's still not enough time to cover everything I'd like to! For one thing, I haven't been able to sit in on a panel for 3 years. When you are shooting toys amid that flurry, you often have to wait until you return home to actually enjoy the toys you were shooting. Sideshow Toys is one such booth, containing so many awesome things, a photographer can throw his back out working a 5 lb camera shooting it all. This year I barely had time to breathe, so while I may not have shot every single thing in the booth, I did shoot the things that made my geeky heart skip a beat. Prepare for high WOA factor in these galleries!

What's in store?

THE DEAD: Sideshow Collectibles' original line of Zombie 12 inch action figures, life-sized busts and horrific statues designed to make you guard your brains with all your might.

STAR WARS: Sideshow may not make a lot of their own 12 inch figures anymore, but their Star Wars pieces are still fantastic and show no signs of ever dropping off in quality. Highlights of this year's offerings included a large Obi Wan bust so lifelike, you'll be jedi mind tricked into dusting him every hour, a statue of Slave Leia strangling the life out of Jabba the Hutt aptly titled "You Are Going to Regret This", full sized, light up busts for Boba Fett and C-3PO and some new 12 creatures you'll lose your mind over.

MARVEL COMICS: There's only one word you use to describe Sideshow's Marvel Comics statues. INSANE. The detail, the side, the features. This is a Marvel psycho's dream...or nightmare if you consider the considerable price tags on these puppies. My favorites this year include a She-Hulk statue packed with attitude, a Thanos statue that perfectly captures the essence of evil and a giant dinosaur called the "Venomsaurus". TOO damn awesome for words.

G.I. JOE: More 12 inch figures on the way, bringing a bit of realism to the classic characters of cartoons and comic books

AVATAR: Sideshow jumps head first into the biggest license of our generation. It's only fitting they do the honors along side Gentle Giant! They've kicked off the line with only two pieces, but including a full size AMP Suit statue is a great way to start!!

MISC: For those items that don't really have a category like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Buffy the Vampire Slayer on a Throne and Kratos, the God of War!

Sideshow Collectibles have also been handling the distribution for the top talent in toys across the globe.

POP CULTURE SHOCK: DID YOU SEE THAT FUCKING LION-O STATUE? Seriously, game over. They also had a beautiful Kabuki statue that may be the best Kabuki item made to date...but even still...DID YOU SEE THAT LION-O STATUE??!!

HOT TOYS: Undisputed MASTERS of the 12 inch action figure, the world over, hands down. Sure some come close, but Hot Toys hits the bullseye every time with likenesses that are so perfect, you'll think the actor's soul is contained within, screaming for you to stop touching them inappropriately. Take THAT Scarlett Johansson. This year's awesome included Iron Man 2, Predators, Terminator 2, Inglorius Basterds and Platoon!

ELECTRIC TIKI: Originators of the "Tooned-Up" style maquette, Team Tiki have cornered the market on cartoon perfection to such a degree that they now seem to have free reign to create anything they'd like from the Disney vaults! What does that mean for us? All your geeky dreams come true and we get pieces from Dragon's Lair, Tron, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and GARGOYLES!!! Inside you'll also find a Tooned-Up Spike Maquette and some girlie statues so naughty, you'll break a sweat just looking at them.
